Discover Citrotec®'s work in the European citrus market

The company has technologies in several European countries, such as Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain, where it has the largest presence.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization, Europe ranks second in the global orange market. The demand for orange juice and other fruit-derived products is increasing in the region. Oranges are one of the main raw materials in Europe, being of great importance for processing various foods and other industrial applications. Due to their versatile use, oranges have gained prominence not only in the industry but also on the local population's table.

Spain is the largest orange producer in the region, followed by Italy and Greece. The Iberian Peninsula has a favorable climate for citrus production, accounting for 80% of the fruit and its products' production on the continent.

Citrotec® has been working with European citrus industries for years, providing equipment for citrus processing and its by-products, such as the TASTE® evaporators and D'oilers for extracting essences and essential oils from citrus fruits, as well as maintenance services and process and equipment improvements. Today, the company has technologies in several European countries, such as Portugal, Italy, Greece, and Spain, where it has the largest presence.

Citrotec® in Spain

For example, Citrotec®'s equipment in Spanish cities supports the growth of citrus production and processing. This is the case with the TASTE® evaporators installed in Santomera and Huelva, respectively in the Valencia and Seville regions, which have been operating for years in the production of citrus and its by-products.

The TASTE®, installed in Santomera in 2020, was the most recent end-to-end project developed by the company in the country. The technology has 7 effects and 7 stages, with a production capacity of 9,600 kg/h, equipped with optional equipment, a final stabilizer, flash cooler, aroma recuperator, and evaporative condenser. "The equipment is working at full capacity, producing juice and by-products since 2021, the year of its start-up," says Citrotec®'s technical director, Paulo Sampaio.

Innovation

In March, Citrotec® was present again on the Iberian Peninsula to study improvements in the country's citrus industries. "Our engineers and process and evaporation technicians made some visits and inspections to several factories. The goal is to contribute to the sector's growth and ensure higher product quality through improvements, conservation, and the implementation of new technologies to existing equipment. Thus, we make the European citrus market stronger and more concrete not only on the continent but also globally," emphasizes Sampaio.
